Programs
Hear Now! Fund
The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA), Sudbury Branch created the Hear Now! Fund to help individuals and families whose low financial circumstances would otherwise prevent them from purchasing hearing aids.
Hear The North
Most public spaces in northeastern Ontario are not hearing accessible but we are hoping to change that. Our “Hear The North” campaign advocates for improved hearing loss awareness and accessibility in public spaces.
Hear The Children Fund
The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA), Sudbury Branch created the Hear the Children Fund to help children cope with hearing loss and provide them with tools to ensure their success in school as well as their daily lives. Educators from across North-Eastern Ontario are encouraged to contact CHHA-Sudbury Branch whenever assistance is required.
Student Bursary
The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA), Sudbury Branch offers an annual $5,000.00 student bursary. This bursary is available to full-time students in any program attending a post-secondary institution in North Eastern Ontario.
Living With Hearing Loss
The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA), Sudbury Branch offers a number of workshops and presentations in Sudbury and across North Eastern Ontario.
Newsletter
The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA), Sudbury Branch produces a newsletter called Resonance several times during the year.
Learning To Hear (For Cochlear Implant Recipients)
Learning to hear and listen with a Cochlear Implant (CI) can be an exciting journey. It can also be fraught with frustration for many. CHHA – Sudbury provides resources and peer mentoring for (CI) recipients and for those considering one.
Living With Tinnitus
Although there is no cure for Tinnitus, in some cases, it can be managed. CHHA – Sudbury Branch’s ‘Living with Tinnitus’ workshop covers some of the possible causes and triggers of tinnitus while also reviewing a few of the management options currently available including conventional and alternative treatments.
Speech Reading Classes (Level 1 and 2)
The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA), Sudbury Branch currently offers Levels 1 and 2 Speech Reading Classes. Each level consists of 10 2-hour classes.
Services
Assistive Living Devices (ALDs)
The Assistive Listening Device Lending Library aids in deciding which device or system will work best. Assistive listening devices (ALDs) can be costly and because everyone’s hearing loss is different, we encourage people to ‘try before they buy.
Advisory and Mentoring Service
You do not have to face hearing loss alone. CHHA – Sudbury is pleased to offer both individual and group consultations. We are here to listen, here to help. Please feel free to contact us to schedule an appointment.
Community Outreach
Staff at the CHHA-Sudbury Branch travel to under-serviced communities in North Eastern Ontario as part of our Outreach Program offering workshops and hearing awareness presentations.
Print Interpretation Services
CHHA – Sudbury has made Computerized Notetaking available across North-Eastern Ontario since 2003. We currently hire and train computerized notetakers through a program we have developed ourselves based on first-hand experience.
